"The Other "

Discovering 'the other'...the 'voices' and perspectives of the global peasant movement...

The focus of our blog is on all those "Others" who seek the empowerment of small farmers and their communities throughout the developing world.

Our intention is build and share our understandings of those "Others" (what they think and why they think that way) to reveal new pathways to a more socially, environmentally and economically just future.

Current "Reciprocity Partners"
Dr Scott John and Dianne James (Scott is the 'cute' one)

Our Recent History

Scott has dedicated the past 13 years to researching and sharing unconventional explanations about understanding others and partnership success.

Dianne has committed 15 years to leading non-profit, membership-based organizations.  Her work has focused on meeting member needs through the development of relevant and successful partnerships.

 Changing Personalities.....

For the past 9 years, we have worked with a wide variety of small and large, public and private organizations. Our core focus has been to help them develop successful internal and external business relationships/partnerships. The fundamental intent of our efforts was to help those organizations make more money or improve their business processes. By the end of 2008, as we looked around at a world in distress, we felt the need for Reciprocity to be offering more.

katebdixon.jpg.jpg In April 2009, we made a decision to re-direct the business and our energies to making an explicit and specific contribution to the creation of a ‘better’ world.

We spent a chaotic month considering the options for where our ideas and corporate experience could make a meaningful contribution. In time, we came to recognize a clear connection between what we had to offer and the needs of those involved in supporting fair, just and ethical global trading practices.

The only problem…we didn’t know very much about an
incredibly rich and increasingly complex fair trade environment - an environment with an amazingly diverse range of global s
takeholders, each with unique perspectives and interests, working within the labyrinth of organizational, political, social and economic contexts that encompass 21st century world trade.

What We’re Like...“Nutters On the Fringe”
We are:
• passionate about understanding what others think and why they think that way
• eccentric, avante-guarde, and quirky
• easily and quickly dissatisfied with the status quo
• edge dwellers and risk takers
• sharers of everything we know
We believe:
• people are inherently good, intelligent, creative, adaptive and collaborative beings
• meaning and knowledge are co-created and socially constructed though our conversations with others
• all individual perspectives are equally valid, valuable and incomplete
• achievement in any form is a collaborative and interdependent process
Our priorities are:
• building ‘communities of practice’
• developing shared understandings and shared agreements
• creating collective intelligence
• maintaining mutual benefit
• supporting the development of fair, ethical and just business practices
